Edo election: Peter Obi meets Labour Party candidate, Olumide Akpata [PHOTOS]

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has met with the party’s governorship candidate in Edo State, Olumide Akpata.

In a tweet on Thursday evening, Obi described the meeting as productive and fruitful.

He wished Akpata well in his quest to succeed Godwin Obaseko as the next governor of Edo State.

He wrote: “Yesterday, I met with my dear younger brother and gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Edo State, @OlumideAkpata, and had very productive and fruitful discussions. I wish him well, as we remain united in our efforts to build the New Nigeria. -PO”

Obi’s meeting with Akpata is coming amid rumours that the former Anambra governor had dumped the LP governorship candidate.

Recall that a prominent member of the Obidient Movement in Edo State, Lucky Obiyan, recently announced that the group would not be supporting Akpata in the forthcoming election.

His words: “The Labour Party in Edo State has so far demonstrated every contradictory arrangement to what Obidients believe in, and that is why we have to urgently inform the people that they shouldn’t be misled.

“We have come to tell the Edo people and the Edos in diaspora that the Obidient Movement washes its hands like Pontius Pilate in the Bible clean from Edo Labour Party and its candidate Olumide Akpata!”

The group also met to issue a statement pledging loyalty to Peter Obi; but also condemned the failure of the Labour Party to position itself as a credible alternative to the PDP and the APC at their Edo Primaries.
