A deadly accident occurred on Thursday along Warrake Road in Owan East Local Government Area, Edo State, when the campaign convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming September 21 governorship election, Senator Monday Okpebholo, collided with a Toyota Camry.
The collision tragically claimed the lives of five people, according to the Nigerian Tribune.
The accident happened near the Uzebba axis in Owan West Local Government Area, resulting in the immediate deaths of the car’s driver, Emmanuel Edionwe, and four others.
One victim remains in critical condition at the Irrua Specialist Hospital.
Eyewitnesses reported that the speeding convoy veered off the road and collided head-on with the Camry as it was negotiating a bend.
The victims were returning from a funeral at the time of the incident, leaving their families in deep sorrow.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Edo State University, Uzairue Mortuary in Etsako West.
While Senator Okpebholo visited the victims at the hospital, there has been no official acknowledgement of the accident from the APC campaign council.
