Edo Governor Obaseki Finally Opens Up on Plot to Impeach Deputy Governor

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has stated that there is no intention to impeach his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Governor Obaseki, however, revealed that Deputy Governor Shaibu’s move to secure a court order to halt his alleged impeachment is a preemptive step as he prepares to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made this known when he addressed reporters during a visit by Edo North leaders.

He acknowledged Deputy Governor Shaibu’s active engagements with influential figures within the APC at national and state levels.

I want to clarify that I am not privy to any plot or scheme to impeach Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu. Such plans do not exist, and I have conducted thorough checks to confirm this fact,” Governor Obaseki said.

Governor Obaseki expressed his astonishment and disappointment over Deputy Governor Shaibu’s legal action, stating, “The court action taken is unexpected and disheartening. It is perplexing to witness such a move from someone who has been entrusted with significant responsibilities as the deputy governor.”

Elaborating further, Governor Obaseki recounted recent events that have led to this point. He cited Deputy Governor Shaibu’s previous disagreements with local government chairmanship nominations and his subsequent interactions with the opposition party.
