Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki has issued a statement on the ongoing Edo Gubernatorial Elections.
Saraki, in a statement via Twitter, warned Edo indigenes to be vigilant adding that they must protect their votes. He also admonished Nigeria’s Electoral body, INEC to ensure the elections are free and fair in order to protect the country’s image.
“The on-going #EdoDecides2020 is getting to the crucial stages. I urge the good people of Edo State not to get carried away but to protect their votes.”
“The enthusiasm and patriotic conduct of the good people of Edo State must not be thwarted or subverted by any @inecnigeria official, either permanent or ad-hoc; or any security personnel, no matter the rank.”
“Nigeria’s glory is more important than the huge ego of politicians. And so @inecnigeria and security officials must work to protect Nigeria’s image and not to satisfy the whims and caprices of some power-hungry politicians,” Saraki wrote.
We cannot get it right….when a sitting president…appoints the main organ of inec…..eg….the state returning officer commissioner…and the inec national chairman….in my own opinion..if we want to be truely independent…the govt shouldn’t get involved…who becomes who…in inec …the works union, religious union and NBA… should be allowed to make the appointments…who becomes who…in inec… board…
