EFCC arrests bank manager for allegedly withdrawing N14.85 million from customer’s account

One Awulu Friday Ayegba, a relationship manager with a new generation bank, has been apprehended for allegedly withdrawing the sum of N14,850,000.00 from a customer’s account.

According to a statement released Thursday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, Ayegba was arrested by EFCC operatives.

The EFCC statement revealed that Ayegba carried out fraudulent withdrawals totalling N14.8 million from a customer’s account between June 7 and July 21, 2023.

It is alleged that he impersonated two individuals, Henry Olowo and Terseer Shibiam, using fake passport photographs, national identification numbers, and phone numbers to open bank accounts in the names of two companies, Sulib Complex & Investments and Seamless & More Global.

The companies were not duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. Ayegba then used these fake accounts to withdraw the funds.

The anti-graft agency further noted that its intelligence revealed that Ayegba also forged documents belonging to an individual named Nduka Obinna to apply for a loan facility amounting to N40 million fraudulently.

Additionally, there were suspicions that he was planning to abscond abroad with his family.

The EFCC stated that Ayegba will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
