EFCC blasts Atiku’s aide over claim its chairman met a governor before his defection

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has slammed Paul Ibe, the media aide to former vice president Atiku Abubakar over the claim that its chairman had a secret meeting with a governor before his defection.

The commission in a statement released by its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said that Ibe’s claim during an interview on Channels Television is unfounded.

Oyewale said the commission is outraged by the allegation that its chairman, Ola Olukoyede secretly met with an unnamed politician.

During the interview, Ibe who spoke on the gale of defections rocking the opposition and other political activities across the country had said that the EFCC’s chairman and the Solicitor General of the Federation met with a governor 48 hours before he (the governor) defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) party.

However, Oyewale said the claim by Atiku’s aide was fabricated and made in bad taste.

“Olukoyede has stressed it at several fora that he is apolitical and the EFCC totally wired against partisan tendencies.

“The public is enjoined to disregard the alleged meeting with the unnamed Governor as it only exists in the imagination of Ibe,” the statement said.
