EFCC invites school proprietors demanding payments in dollars

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has moved against persons issuing invoices in dollars and mutilating the naira, especially in Lagos and Port Harcourt.

The move, Politics Nigeria understands, is in a bid to prevent the free fall of the Nigerian currency, the naira.

EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday.

Oyewale also revealed that the commission has summoned proprietors of private universities and other institutions of higher learning charging fees in dollars for questioning.

According to him, the EFCC has also raised a Special task force in all its zonal commands for the enforcement of extant laws against currency mutilation and dollarisation of the economy.

Oyawale said the task force was recently inaugurated by the chairman of the commission, Ola Olukoyede.

According to him, the task force was raised to protect the economy from abuses, leakages and distortions exposing it to instability and disruption.

He reiterated the commission’s commitment to the enforcement of all laws put in place for the stimulation of the economy.
