“Listen to Nigerians on security, economy” – Benue Gov. Ortom to Buhari

Samuel Ortom, the Governor of Benue State on Wednesday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to “listen to Nigerians on the economy and security”.

Ortom’s advice follows the National Assembly’s adoption of the electronic transmission of election results, in line with the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ortom’s reaction via his official Twitter handle also came after President Buhari, this month, lifted the lid on why he withheld assent to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, which he has returned to the National Assembly.

Buhari in a letter to the National Assembly had explained that his decision to withhold assent to the electoral bill was informed by advice from relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government after a thorough review.

Ortom used the opportunity of the Electoral Act discourse to counsel the apex government.

“I want to first of all, appreciate the @nassnigeria for amending the #ElectoralAct to include direct transmission of results. I commend President @MBuhari for withholding assent on the Direct Primaries.I appeal he sholud also listens to Nigerians on the economy and security too,” Ortom wrote.
