The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has parted ways with head coach Rui Vitoria following the national team’s disappointing showing at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Vitoria, in charge of the team for less than two years, and his staff were “thanked” in a statement released by the EFA board, who are now “reviewing foreign coaches’ resumes” to fill the vacancy.
The statement added that former Al-Ahly coach Mohamed Youssef will take charge on an interim basis.
Egypt were eliminated in the Round of 16 of AFCON by DR Congo. The country last won the competition in 2010.
