Ekiti Council boss suspended over Fayemi’s Presidential campaign posters

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has suspended Mr Femi Ayodele, Chairman of Ikere Local Government, for printing and circulating the 2023 presidential campaign posters for Governor Kayode Fayemi.

According to the lawmakers, Ayodele was suspended for not consulting with the governor before authorising the printing and circulation of the posters. The assembly noted that Ayodele’s action contravenes the extant provisions of the Electoral Act, 2010 as amended.

Presiding over the assembly’s plenary on Friday, Speaker of the House, Hon. Funminiyi Afuye said the suspension of the council chairman was unanimous, adding that suspension will be lifted pending the completion of the assembly’s investigation on the matter.

The decision to suspend Ayodele followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Chief Gboyega Aribisogan and seconded by Mr Tajudeen Akingbolu, Ekiti West Constituency 1, APC. The lawmakers called for necessary and appropriate action against Ayodele to serve as a deterrent to other overzealous politicians.

The Assembly also committed the matter to its House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for a thorough investigation.

The Speaker who hailed from the same council with Ayodele directed the ad-hoc committee to submit its report to the House within one week.
