A Former head of the Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari has made his first appearance before a special panel setup by IGP Usman Alkali to investigate accusations levelled against him by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.
It can be recalled that Kyari was indicted by the FBI over his ties to disgraced fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abass popularly known as ‘Hushpuppi’. POLITICS NIGERIA learned that Kyari, a deputy commissioner of Police, presented his defence before the SIP in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Special Panel is headed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in-charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Joseph Egbunike. The panel started sitting on Monday but Kyari appeared before it for the first time on Tuesday.
This newspaper earlier reported that Kyari entered hot water over his involvement in a $1.1m Internet fraud allegedly perpetrated by Hushpuppi, and five others.
The FBI had claimed that Kyari detained one Kelly Chibuzor at the behest of Hushpuppi for one month to enable the latter and his co-conspirators fleece their Qatari victim of about $1.1m.
The agency also disclosed that Hushpuppi paid $20,600 to two bank accounts allegedly provided by the former IRT commander in January 20, 2020.

Though Kyari has not been proven guilty of the allegations made against him. But in my own point of view, I think he need to answer all the allegations laid against him. As an offender, if you know you are not guilty of an offence, you will have this zeal in you just because you are not guilty of the allegation made against you. So, with all what he has been saying on social and what has been published about him lately, I think the bushes are being cleared little by little…

Why is Abba Kyari afraid to voluntarily surrender himself to the FBI and prove his innocence?
This cop have a lot to hide, and if they hand him over just like that, he will undo many criminal element in this administration.
When I began to have some reservations about this cop was when I saw him in Obi cubana mother’s burial.
Now if he is genuinely innocent, let him go and face his trial, not posting some inane things on social media.
