Ekiti Monarch Crisis: Fayemi meets Alaafin of Oyo [PHOTOS]

The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi has met with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi after the latter wrote a strong letter to the former concerning his management of a crisis between traditional monarchs in the State.

Fayemi made headlines after he issued a letter of query to 16 Ekiti monarchs over alleged insubordination. The timing of Fayemi’s query comes shortly after the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II was dethroned by Kano state governor, Umar Ganduje.

The Alaafin in his open letter to Fayemi cautioned him to ‘tread softly’. He warned that the monarchs be treated with respect. The letter read; “Your Excellency’s neglect of the hierarchical order by appointing a subordinate Oba as the Chairman of the Council of Obas and Chiefs in the State over and above the recognized order It was therefore with total displeasure and indeed total discomfort that we learnt of,”.

“In a free society like ours, nobody should expect those injured by that assault to keep quiet. As civilized people, rather than confronting or engaging the government they chose the court option.”

“Since the case is still in court, we will not want to comment further on it as a law-abiding citizen. I, however, expected that your Excellency waits till the end of the court process before acting on the matter,”.

However, Governor Fayemi met with the Alaafin on Sunday at his palace in Oyo, quickly proceeding to prostrate before him. Both leader reportedly had a good conversation and exchanged banter. Photos below;

    It was a good geture on the part of the Ekiti State Governor ,Fayemi to have paid a visit to the Alaafin of Oyo o er the Ekiti Governor’s crisis with the 16 Crowned Ekiti Obas and ya Alaafin open letter to the Governor.
    We hope the governor will see reason to tred the path of caution and do the needful on the issue in line with necessary respect for Yoruba traditions and culture as the Iku baba yeye might have tuttored him.

  3. Good step by Gov Fayemi to personally visit Kabiyesi on behalf of other Paramount Rulers instead of replying with letter that will have become insult(ARIFIN).
    I wish the matter is resolve this week. Omo & Oba Yoruba atata.
