El-Rufai blames Southern Kaduna killings on bandits

Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has blamed the killings in the Southern part of the state on the activities of bandits.

Speaking to reporters on Monday in Kaduna, the governor said that the activities of the bandits are tagged as ethnic and religious in the state, adding that leas to communal tensions and reprisal attacks between people who have lived peacefully together.

Governor El-Rufai noted that attacks by bandits were not localized to only the southern part of the state but the whole state and the entire North-west region.

He said the Southern Kaduna massacre is being carried out criminals who had been killing, kidnapping people, and rustling cattle in the state.

The governor, however, stated that his administration had taken steps to secure the southern part of the state, including ensuring that a military base and two mobile police squadrons were located there.

He added that in addition to security presence, peace required that everyone should obey the rule of law and avoid self-help.

He said: “These criminals attack people, irrespective of their religion or ethnicity and they have been perpetrating their reign of terror in Giwa, Birnin Gwari, and parts of Igabi Local Government Area.

“Ultimately peace depends on the willingness of people to live in harmony and to settle their differences peacefully.”
