El-Rufai sounds alarm on insecurity in Kaduna as tenure nears end

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a warning that bandits and terrorists may launch deadly attacks in Nigeria, particularly in the North West and Northern region, during the transition period if security efforts are not intensified.

Speaking at the presentation of a security report in the state capital on Wednesday, El-Rufai called for increased security operations against the threat of terror during the remaining days of the current administration and beyond.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that according to the reviewed 2022 annual and first quarter 2023 security reports, a total of 1,266 and 4,973 individuals were killed and kidnapped in the past 15 months. Reports also indicate that there has been a surge in killings by bandits and terrorists in states such as Kaduna, Benue, and Zamfara, following the general elections.

“We appeal for an escalation of security operations over the 39 days remaining till the end of the tenure of this administration and beyond so that the change of baton at the federal level does not result in a dangerous lull that criminal outlaws can exploit”, he stated.

As the current administration comes to a close, outgoing governors and President Muhammadu Buhari are set to hand over to the incoming administration on May 29.
