Election: Adamu Garba disobeys INEC, takes phone to voting cubicle [VIDEO]

Adamu Garba, a member of the Bola Tinubu/Kashim Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council, on Saturday, disobeyed a directive of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by using a mobile phone inside the voting cubicle to take a video of himself casting his votes for his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that INEC had warned voters that the use of mobile phones or any photographic device inside the voting cubicle to take pictures of the party they cast their votes for would not be allowed.

The National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC Voter Education and Publicity Committee, Barrister Festus Okoye, made this known recently during an appearance on Channels Television.

He said anyone caught will be jailed upon prosecution.

Earlier, in violation of the Electoral Act, President Muhammadu Buhari after casting his vote at his polling unit in Daura, Katsina state displayed his ballot in public.

President Buhari in February last year signed the 2022 Electoral Act amendment Bill into Law.

However, the president violated the same law by displaying his ballot after he cast his vote in company with his wife, Aisha Buhari and other aides.

Checks by this newspaper show that Section 129 (1) provides that “Exhibiting Party or election-related symbols within the vicinity of a polling unit or collation Centre on the day of election is an electoral offense that attracts a fine of N100,000 or imprisonment for 6 months.”
