The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday declared the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the winner of Saturday’s presidential election in Anambra State.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Obi swept all the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state by a wide margin. Obi, 61, is a former governor of the state.
Professor Nnenna Otti, the Vice-Chancellor Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), who is the Anambra State collation officer, announced the result this afternoon.
She said Obi had 58, 4621 votes while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential flag-bearer, Atiku Abubakar, garnered 9,036 votes. The presidential flag-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came third with 5,111 votes.
As of the time of publishing this report, the collation officer and the Resident Electoral Commission of INEC in Anambra State, Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, has left for the national collation centre in Abuja.
