Escapees Not Primary Suspects In Anambra Lawmaker’s Murder, Police Assure Nigerians

The Police in Anambra State has assured Nigerians and the people of the state that the suspects who escaped from their custody are not the principal suspects in the kidnap and killing of Justice Azuka, a Labour Party lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency.

Ikioye Irutugu, the Anambra State’s commissioner of police, said that Chinedu and Ikemefuna, who escaped from police custody after their arrest in connection with Azuka’s murder, were only leading the police to the buyer or receiver of Azuka’s stolen vehicles and belongings.

Speaking while parading six suspected criminals at the Amawbia police headquarters, the CP said both escapees managed to escape due to some procedural lapse within the state command.

According to Irutugu, the key suspect, Tochukwu Akolisa has been arrested and is in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force.

He also noted that the police high command has taken over the case.

Stating that while investigations into the killing of the LP lawmaker is still ongoing, Irutugu assured that disciplinary actions would be meted against officers involved in their escape.
