“Even disciples of Jesus Christ defected” – PDP chieftain says party remains stronger despite defections

Newly inaugurated Board of Trustees (BoT) member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jones Onyeriri has dismissed the ongoing defections from the PDP.

Onyeriri downplayed their significance, saying, “Even Jesus Christ, at a time, had some of his disciples who defected.

“For me, it is a sign that we are closer to our crown. We remain strong and have taken over. No one is sabotaging the party—anyone who is, has already left.”

Onyeriri further asserted the relevance of the PDP, while reaffirming the resilience of the opposition party.

The PDP on Monday inaugurated Onyeriri and 38 other new members of its BoT.

At the inauguration held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, said the new members were nominated by various states and zones in recognition of their loyalty, experience, and dedication to the party.

Describing the event as a symbol of “a new beginning” and a “reaffirmation of our collective commitment to the values and principles of the PDP,” Wabara urged the appointees to view their roles not just as honours, but as responsibilities.

“Your role is to guide and support the leadership of the party and act as a stabilising force in times of challenge and uncertainty,” he said.

Others inaugurated into the BoT include prominent figures such as Eddy Olafeso, Labaran Maku, Ibrahim Shekarau, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Samuel Ortom, and Nimota Ibrahim.
