Ex-Lawmaker Farouk Lawan Makes First Statement After Release from Kuje Prison

A former member of the House of Representatives, Farouk Lawan who was recently released from Kuje correctional facility has made his first statement after serving his jail term.

In a statement issued shortly after his release, the former lawmaker expressed gratitude to Allah for his release.

According to Lawan, his release date marks the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

He said, “Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah.

“Today marks the start of a new chapter in my life as I leave Kuje Custodial Centre. I am immensely thankful to Allah SWT for guiding me through this trial,” the former lawmaker said.

Having served as the chairman, advocate committee on fuel subsidy regime, Lawan was accused by oil magnate, Femi Otedola of demanding a bribe of $3 million.

The businessman had accused Lawan of receiving a total of $500,000 to company’s name from the list of firms implicated in the 2012 fuel subsidy scam.

He was later convicted by the court and subsequently served a five year jail term for the charges leveled against him at the time.
