Ex-Military Personnel Erect Canopies, Block Finance Ministry in Protest Over Unpaid Entitlements [PHOTOS]

Some retired personnel of the Nigerian Military on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, erected canopies in front of the gate of the Ministry of Finance Complex in Abuja to protest the long overdue payment of their entitlements.

In photos seen by Politics Nigeria, the ex-service men were captured blocking the entrance of the Finance Ministry with about two different canopies and chairs.

They were also seen going about exercise routines like push ups among others.

According to the ex-military personnel, they were at the Ministry of Finance to demand the immediate settlement of their long-pending entitlements which the alleged government’s failure to pay them.

The ex-service men said some of the pending benefits include the offsetting of their palliatives between October 2023 and November 2024.

They also called for an increase of N32,000 to their pension payment, a refund of pension deductions taken from the salaries of soldiers who were medically discharged and a lump sum payment of the Security Debarment Allowance.

In December 2024, the retirees had protest the failure of government to fulfill their demands. This was met with a move by FG to pay 50 per cent of the ex-servicemen outstanding entitlements.

Following the payment, the Federal Government assured the retirees that the balance would be offset immediately, a promise which the FG is yet to honour.
