Ex-senator knocks Tinubu for assigning defence ministry to politicians

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has come under fire for appointing two politicians — former governor Mohammed Badaru and Bello Matawalle— as ministers of defence.

According to President Tinubu, Badaru (Jigawa) would head the ministry while Matawalle (Zamfara) will serve as the minister of state for defence.

But former Kaduna central senator, Shehu Sani, has expressed disappointment with the appointment of politicians to lead such sensitive ministry.

The former lawmaker noted that the ministry should have been given to a retired military officer with records of accomplishments.

“In view of the security challenges faced by this country, I thought the Defence Minister should be a retired Military officer with experience and records of accomplishments. That office shouldn’t be just political, especially at this time,” Sani said in a tweet.
