Exclusive: NIPOST Clamps Down on Illegal Courier Operators in Abuja, Demands #320,000 For Licence

Over Five Hundred (500) Unlicensed and Illegal Courier and Logistics Operators have recently been clamped down by the federal government over display of unhealthy practices and recklessness across the country.

Earlier, the Postmaster General of the Federation/CEO, Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Sunday Adepoju had charged the CLRD enforcement team with the commitment to sanitizing the courier and logistics industry.

He reiterated that NIPOST is committed to straightening the mechanisms for implementing a standardized regulation for NIPOST to regulate, licence, and monitor the Postal, Courier, Express and Logistics operation in Nigeria.

Event however took another twist in the federal capital territory as the enforcement team led by General Manager Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD), Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Sunday Adepoju conducted the clampdown around Area 11 Garki and other areas within Abuja on Thursday.

The Enforcement Operation was carried out by a combined team of NIPOST (CLRD) officials, Armed mobile Police Officers from the FCT Police Command, and Men of the Force Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department (FCIID).

Meanwhile, one of the riders who preferred anonymity disclosed to POLITICS NIGERIA that his bike was seized and was told by the NIPOST officials to pay the sum of #320,000 (Three Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira), to get a license from the agency.

He lamented that majority of them (riders) already have their permits to operate in the FCT and the notice by NIPOST to comply with their regulations was not earlier given before enforcement.

Effort to reach the Director, Corporate Communication, NIPOST proved abortive as at press time.
