A young lady, Ayodele Bukunmi has lost her 3 months pregnancy in prison where she is being held for participating in the #EndSARS protests.
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls in October 2020, several Nigerian youths flooded streets all over the country to protests against the notorious Special anti-robbery squad arm of the Police also known as SARS over incessant extortion, torture and extra-judicial killings.
The peaceful protests became violent after thugs infiltrated their ranks, wreaking havoc and destroying public property worth millions of Naira. This prompted the government to enforce the arrest of several peaceful protesters across the country.
Many of these innocent youths are still languishing in Jail. This newspaper earlier reported how a protester arrested in Lagos, Nicholas Mbah, spent eight months in KiriKiri prison before regaining his freedom.
Currently, there are four #EndSARS protesters still in Surulere prison in Akure, Ondo State, namely; Kemisola Oguniyi, Ayodele Bukunmi, Ojo Samuel, and Ani Obinna.
They were arrested on October 22, 2020 and were accused of having connections with persons who torched the All Progressive Congress(APC) secretariat in Akure during the nationwide #EndSARS protests.
This newspaper reported that Ms Oguniyi gave birth to a baby boy in prison last week and efforts are being made to secure her bail. POLITICS NIGERIA has, however exclusively learnt that Ms Bukunmi, the second female in Akure prison lost her 3 month pregnancy allegedly due to torture.
Her lawyer, Tope Temokun confirmed this to our correspondent. He said the four individuals in prison have no connection with the fracas that followed the protest.
He described the development as a gross breach of fundamental human rights.
Our correspondent reached out to the spokesperson of Ondo State Command of Nigeria Correctional Service, Ogundare Babatunde for comments but he did not respond to calls and text messages.
