The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN has issued a strong warning to the All Progressives Congress, APC to desist from impersonating christian clerics.
The party was embroiled in controversy after some individuals claiming to be ‘bishops’ attended the official unveiling of Kashim Shettima as the running mate to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is the flagbearer of the ruling party.
Tinubu has been facing severe criticisms ever since he chose Shettima, also a muslim, as his running mate.The move has drawn serious criticisms and condemnation from the christian community in the country.
Below is a full statement from CAN on the matter;
“The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has dissociated itself from the unveiling of the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Kashim Shettima, saying those who were presented as church leaders are ‘unknown clerics’.”
“We are shocked, disappointed and worried about the desperation of some politicians who once claimed Christians do not matter in governance and politics who went to hire some unknown ‘bishops, pastors and priests’ to impersonate the leadership of CAN in their political meeting.”
“This is totally unacceptable, reprehensible, unprecedented and ungodly. If they are saying Christians have no electoral values why impersonating them in their meetings?”
“We are throwing their principals and sponsors into the court of conscience. These actions of theirs have shown who they are to the public and what they are capable of doing to us all.”
“We are asking political parties not to ignore religious sensibilities and sensibilities of the people especially in today’s Nigeria when Christians are becoming endangered species daily.”
“Our quest is within the constitutional requirements and ignoring it is akin to trampling on the Constitution especially the Federal Character Act.”
The APC action is very disingenuous and shameful. How do we explain peddling lies to get into the highest office in the land.

They even touched on the constitution and failed to quote the section of the statutes where it was written that a MUSLIM cannot be VP of the federal republic of Nigeria and or where it said that RELIGION is a prerequisite for any statutory office in the federation.

it is reported that in 2014, in his obsession with the office of the president BAT informed his Northers Muslim backers that the south west would vote for a Muslim-Muslim ticket i.e, Buhari-Tinubu; this time again BAT was alleged to have assured his Northern backers that a Muslim vice president would be acceptable to Nigerians, all of this towards his obsession to rule Nigeria. But the prognoses are clear; the Christians, particularly the Northern Christians have been relegated to irrelevance in political processes, that they have no electoral values and could be easily dispensed with. Of course, the thought is that southern Christians would not mind a Muslim-Muslim ticket any day because in the south west there has been mutual inter-faith tolerance. Christianity has always been vulnerable; the faith bears the greatest brunt of the terrorist activities; the terrorists are incidentally Islamic fundamentalists; PMB has effectively northernized/islamized the political power space in Nigeria. hence the prevailing suspicion of the intentions of the North in their support for Muslim-Muslim ticket. The man Kashima is a good material but the North can always get him derailed when even a Pastor VP has been made redundant by a cabal that controls PMB to embark on the Islamization drive we are witnessing. we can be sure, 2023 votes will witness the most acerbic division between faiths among APC adherents.
