Family announces burial date for Afenifere leader Ayo Adebanjo

The late leader of the Afenifere group, Ayo Adebanjo will be laid to rest on Saturday, May 3, 2025, his family has announced.

Adebanjo, the factional leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group died on February 14, at the age of 96.

In a statement released on Thursday, his family said a four-day funeral ceremony has been curated to celebrate the life of the Afenifere leader.

According to his family, the funeral will begin on April 30, with a day of tributes and service of songs.

This event will take place at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.

On May 2, there would be a wake keep at his country home in Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

This particular event would be followed by the main funeral service at the St. Phillips Anglican Church in Isanya Ogbo on May 3.

Finally, on May 4, the funeral will be brought to a close with a thanksgiving service.

The family said provisions have been made for some resourceful materials including programme brochures and the like for the burial.

Also, members of the family are open to pre-event interviews and press briefings.
