Former Aviation Minister and one of the spokespersons for the Bola Tinubu/Kashim Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Femi Fani-Kayode, on Tuesday, criticised Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for ‘disrespecting’ persons of Southern origin.
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that featuring last Saturday at the Arewa Joint Committee interactive session in Kaduna State, Atiku classified the Southern region as only the South West and South East zones.
He also said the South-West has only one ethnic group (Yoruba) and the South East has only one clan (Igbo).
Reacting via a Twitter post, Fani-Kayode accused the PDP presidential flag-bearer of being a bigot, adding that the former vice-president is comfortable treating people with contempt.
“He arrogantly didn’t mention the South South, which is made of ethnic groups like the Ijaws, Ikwerres, Efiks, Ibibios, Urhobos, even the Aniomas where his vice president is from. He refused to acknowledge the existence of these groups. This is a man that calls himself a unifier and says he will restructure the nation.
His words are misleading, deeply insulting to Southerners generally and the people of the South South particularly and they are laced with bigotry.
Is this a man that is fit to lead Nigeria or that deserves to preside over her affairs?

“No wonder he treats people like Nyesom Wike with contempt because he is Ikwerre and no wonder he treats people like Goodluck Jonathan with contempt because he is Ijaw,” Fani-Kayode wrote.
