Fani-Kayode Reacts To Arrest, Prosecution Of Funke Akindele, Husband

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to the arrest and prosecution of Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele and her husband, AbdulRasheed Bello.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the police from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, had arrested Akindele and her husband for hosting a birthday party at their residence at Amen Estate in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.

The duo were convicted and sentenced to 14-day community service and N100,000 fine each by a state Magistrates Court in Ogba on Monday.

However, in a series of tweets via his Twitter handle, Fani-Kayode condemned the prosecution and conviction of the Nollywood actress and her husband.

The former minister added that the judgement was overbearing and unnecessary, adding that a warning would have been enough, especially after she publicly expressed remorse.

Fani-Kayode also wondered why those who crowded the court during the arraignment were not also prosecuted as they did not observe social distancing.

He wrote: “The prosecution & conviction of Funke Akindele was overbearing & unnecessary. A warning would have been enough.

“This is especially so after she publicly expressed remorse. The court was crowded. Why don’t they prosecute those that were there as well, including the Magistrate?”

  1. Meaning that everybody should go on committing crime with the intention to be remorse, then get warning and go free.
