Father butchers son to death over cassava in Akwa Ibom

A tragic event occurred in Akwa Ibom state, where Mr Innocent Uko, a resident of Ebe Ikpe village, fatally attacked his 26-year-old son, Boniface Innocent Uko, during a dispute over cassava.

The aggrieved father, according to the police, justified his decision to kill his son with the claim that he (the deceased) harvested his cassava without permission.

The spokesman of the Akwa Ibom police command, SP Odiko Macedon, said after killing his son, the man burnt the corpse and dumped the carcass in an abandoned pit toilet in his compound to conceal the act.

When apprehended and questioned about the incident, the deceased’s father openly confessed to committing the act, citing his late son’s troublesome behaviour, relentless harassment, and constant embarrassment as the reasons behind his actions.

SP Macedon said in a statement:

”Police Operatives of Essien Udim Divisional Headquarters visited the scene; the deceased burnt corpse was deposited at the morgue.

”The suspect was arrested and has confessed to killing the deceased, his son, on the grounds of bad character and incessant harassment and embarrassment.”
