The police command in Ogun state has arrested a father of three, Taye Agbaje (37 years), for the alleged murder of his younger brother’s children, Promise, aged nine, and seven-year-old Testimony in the Kemta region of Abeokuta.
Describing the development as “incomprehensible”, the spokesperson of the command, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed this tragic event on Monday, August 14.
Agbaje confessed to violently attacking the two children in a secluded area and abandoning their bodies there.
The suspect, during interrogation by the police, denied any intention of using the children for ritualistic purposes but did not explain why the private parts of the dead children were missing at the crime scene.
It was gathered that on August 6, Agbaje took the victims on his motorcycle. Upon discovering their children’s absence, the distraught parents sounded the alarm.
A vigilant neighbour came forward, reporting he had witnessed the children with Agbaje earlier.
A resident of the area who pleaded anonymity said: “Taye initially denied any knowledge of the children’s whereabouts. But under pressure, he admitted to only taking them to the market.”
Agbaje confessed to the horrific act and led the police to where he had left the young victims.
