FG Commences Payment of Minimum Wage Arrears to Former NYSC Members

The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of ₦44,000 minimum wage arrears to former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), fulfilling a commitment made following the upward review of corps members’ monthly allowance.

The payment, which applies to ex-corps members who completed their service before the new allowance took effect, comes as part of the implementation of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, which raised the national minimum wage and, by extension, the monthly allowance of corps members from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000.

Although the new allowance became effective in March 2025, many NYSC members who had passed out prior to that date were left awaiting clarification on whether they would receive the differential as arrears.

Despite public uncertainty and widespread speculation suggesting that the former corps members might be excluded from the arrears, the Federal Government had earlier assured that all eligible individuals would be paid, regardless of their current service status.

Former corps members have since taken to various social media platforms to confirm receipt of the payment, expressing gratitude and relief.

The ₦44,000 arrears represent the monthly difference owed to those who served under the previous allowance structure.

The disbursement is expected to continue in phases until all outstanding payments are completed.
