On Thursday, January 30, the Federal Government made a N30 million donation to the family of late Taiwo Akinkunmi, the man who designed the Nigerian flag.
This disclosure was made by the director general of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Isaa-Onilu.
Accompanied by Olukemi Afolayan, the Oyo state director of the NOA, Issa-Onilu presented the cheque to Pa Akinkunmi’s family at the Elebu in Ibadan residence of the late national hero.
Issa-Onilu said, “The donation of N30 million to the family of renowned National Flag designer was not to pay for the services of the late legend but to support his family in appreciation of his contributions to the country.”
Akinwunmi Akinkunmi, one of the sons of the late national hero expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the financial gesture.
The donation made on behalf of the Federal Government was presented two years after the passing of Pa Akinkunmi.
Pa Akinkunmi died at the age of 87 on August 29, 2023.
Following the national hero’s death, President Bola Tinubu on September 4, 2023, sent a delegation of leaders to pay a condolence visit to the family.
The delegation was led by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Malagi.
