The Federal Government has announced its plan to end the menace and challenges faced with the large number of ghost workers across ministries, departments and agencies of the government.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Didi Walson-Jack said the government has initiated a personnel audit for all civil servants in the country.
Walson-Jack said the initiative is aimed at capturing every employee’s Bank Verification Number (BVN) and National Identification Number (NIN).
With the database generated, the Federal Government will be able to eliminate ghost workers.
In a statement issued by Eno Olotu, the Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of HCSF, this initiative has been endorsed as part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
She said the initiative would also help in the development contemporary and effective civil service.
According to her, the process would assess the size, organisation, and skill set of the personnel across various MDAs while strategising on the necessary skills needed to meet future demands within the civil service.
She further stated that the process will involve the creation of a verified digital database for personnel, which will be connected to National Identification Numbers (NIN) and Bank Verification Numbers (BVN).
This database will not only help in eliminating ghost workers but also resolve discrepancies in employee records among others.
“The initiative will also identify skills gaps in critical areas such as ICT, project management, public finance and data analysis,” the statement said.
The HCSF also assured that she would lead the steering committee which consists of key permanent secretaries, the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Director-General of the Budget Office, representatives from the Presidency, and other relevant consultants.
