Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory has debunked claims in some quarters that his emergence as Rivers State governor in 2014 was facilitated by some political bigwigs.
Speaking at a civic luncheon organised for his supporters in Rivers State, the minister said he fought party structure led by Magnus Abe to clinch the number one seat in the state.
The outburst by Wike follows claims that he was supported by former President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife, Patience and Peter Odili and his wife, Mary to become a governor.
His reaction is also sequel to the support thrown at the incumbent governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara by Odili.
According to Wike, Odili, also a former Rivers State governor should play the role of a father to both men rather than taking sides.
The minister said, “You (Odili) didn’t give me. To be governor of Rivers State 2014, I fought for the party structure. I took it from Magnus Abe, yes, I did.
“So you can’t say you made me Governor. Nobody, I don’t want to make comments about certain people, I won’t do that,” he said.
Further stating that nobody can claim to have been instrumental to his becoming governor of Rivers state then, Wike said it would be unfair to God for anyone to say that.
