FG to Convene FEC Meeting Today Over Minimum Wage Crisis, Other National Issues

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) is scheduled to convene today to address several pressing matters affecting the nation, including the long-standing minimum wage dispute between the federal government and organized labour.

The development was revealed by sources privy to the information.

According to sources, the council will deliberate on the report submitted by the tripartite committee established by the federal government, which proposes a minimum wage of N62,000.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that despite the federal government and the private sector agreement on N62,000 minimum wage, organized labour, comprising the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), is insisting on a minimum wage of N250,000.

The FEC meeting, which will be chaired by President Bola Tinubu, will aim to reconcile the positions of both parties and pave the way for an executive bill to be presented to the National Assembly.

Today’s meeting will mark a departure from the usual Monday schedule, which was approved by President Tinubu. Recall that prior to this administration, FEC meetings were held every Wednesday.

If you’re yet to pass bill for minimum wage, why not implement the salary increase that no one forced you to announce?
If you are yet to implement salary increases you announced, why not continue the payment of wage award as agreed?

Look at all the spending and alleviating programs you put in place. Where are the positive effects on hunger and suffering right now?
