Finally, Obasanjo Opens Up On Why He Testified Against Agunloye At Mambilla Power Deal Case

Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria has debunked the claim that he was sent to Paris, France to testify against an ex-Minister of Power, Olu Agunloye at the ongoing arbitration for the controversial $6 billion Mambilla Power Project.

Premium Times reports that Obasanjo said that contrary to the claim, he volunteered to stand as witness in the hearing of the matter at the International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration.

Setting the record straight, the former president said he was not in any influenced by President Bola Tinubu or any other government official on the arbitration of botched agreement with the Federal Government.

He said, “I volunteered myself to testify in this case. Nobody sent me to do so. President Tinubu did not ask me to do so as speculated. I didn’t speak to anybody on my intention to testify.”

“I decided to testify because of the statement made on the matter by Olu Agunloye. I considered his claims atrocious and thought it necessary to set the records straight,” Obasanjo added.

While Agunloye is on trial for allegations of fraud in Nigeria, an arbitration Nigerian government and Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited is going on at the ICC in France over the breach of agreement in the Mambilla Power Project.

Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited is demanding $2.3 billion as compensation for breach of the contract.
