Fire guts 7-storey building in Lagos

A fire outbreak in Lagos on Friday, August 16, morning has ravaged a 7-storey building housing several shops on Sanni Adewale Street.

The fire which reportedly started at about 5.17 am caused panic among residents in the area as they ran for safety.

Although no casualty was recorded in the incident, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently working to extinguish the fire that has destroyed items valued at millions of naira.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations have been dispatched to the location.

Adeseye said the operatives were dispatched after the service received a distress call and arrived at the scene by 5:33 a.m.

She said, “Thanks to the swift actions of the Lagos State Firefighters, the situation is now under control.

“Ventilation efforts are currently underway to ensure the safety of all in the area.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was triggered by an electrical surge. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.”
