Firefighters to the rescue as petrol tanker explodes in Jigawa

A petrol tanker exploded at the Shakkato Filling Station, located along Kiyawa Road in the Takur Adua Area of Dutse metropolis, Jigawa State, on Thursday night. The explosion occurred while the tanker was discharging petroleum products into an underground tank.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Jigawa State, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident, noting that quick action from firefighters and local volunteers helped to bring the fire under control. Fortunately, no lives were lost and there were no reported casualties.

While the extent of property damage is still being assessed, the area was cordoned off by the police and other security agencies to ensure public safety and prevent looting.

Mati Shehu, a firefighter on the scene, stated that the fire broke out around 7:00 pm.

Tahir Muhammad Ayuba, representing the Federal Fire Service, advised filling station owners to be better prepared for emergencies by ensuring that fire extinguishers and chemical fire-fighting equipment are readily available.

On his part, Abdulhadi Tukur, representing the Northwest Territorial Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), expressed relief that no casualties were reported during the incident.
