The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed five new cases of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the number of cases in Nigeria to 70.
The health agency made this known on Friday evening via its Twitter handle. The NCDC added that three of the cases were confirmed in FCT, and two in Oyo state.
It tweeted, “Five new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria: 3 in FCT and 2 in Oyo State. As of 08:00 pm, 27th of March, there are 70 cases of confirmed #COVID19 reported Nigeria. Three have been discharged with one dead.”
The center noted that the breakdown of cases by states as follows: Lagos- 44 FCT- 14 Ogun- 3 Ekiti- 1 Oyo- 3 Edo- 1 Bauchi- 2 Osun-1 Rivers-1
The Federal Ministry of Health has also issued a statement on the development. The Statement read; “As of today, Nigeria has 70 confirmed cases of #COVID19; 44 are in Lagos, 14 in FCT, 3 in Ogun, 3 in Oyo, 2 in Bauchi, and 1 each in Ekiti, Edo, Osun and Rivers State. To date 3 have been discharged with one death recorded.”
“The Nigerian Government has given N10 bn naira to Lagos State to increase its capacity to respond to the COVID-19 and a N5 bn special intervention fund to NCDC to equip, expand & provide personnel to its facilities & labs across the country”.
“We are engaging with all the state governors to have isolation centres to reduce the spread of #COVID19. We are also actively working with NEMA to provide basic essentials for Nigerians in the event of the mandatory stay at home instructions”.
“All Nigerians are encouraged to adhere to government directives and follow the recommendations of washing your hands, coughing into your elbows & observing social distancing’. The fight against #COVID19 will require everyone to #TakeResponsibility”.
