Residents of Abuja Phase 1 in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, are currently reeling from the devastation caused by the early morning rainfall on Monday.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the incident has led to the loss of many houses as they were submerged and destroyed by the rain.
According to eyewitnesses, the rain which began at about 1 a.m., lasted for several hours, causing flooding not only in the area but also in some parts of the Jalingo metropolis.
The victims who are now seeking government intervention expressed their lamentations over the large portion of their valuables washed away by the flood.
Anita Sunday, one of the victims, disclosed that apart from the clothes she had on, everything else had been overtaken by water. She called on the government and well-to-do individuals to come to their aid while urging the relevant authority to construct drainage in the area to forestall a recurrence.
Uloma Eze, another resident, expressed her sadness at returning from work in the morning only to find her apartment taken over by the flood. Other victims who spoke pleaded with the government, well-to-do individuals, and corporate organisations to come to their aid.
While some victims have relocated to their friends’ and relatives’ houses, others are patiently waiting for the flood to subside.
