Former Abia governor’s aide dumps PDP, gives reason

Onyebuchi Ememanka, the chief press secretary to the former governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ememanka, in a letter addressed to Chiemela Ufomba, the chairman of the PDP in Amasato Ward, Osisioma Ngwa, said he was resigning from the party with immediate effect.

He added, “I will always be grateful to the party and her members for the platform I was given and the cooperation I enjoyed while I served our people. I wish the party well.”

Also, in a post shared via his Facebook account, the governor’s aide said his decision to leave the party was a painful one, which he took after a deep and personal reflection.

He noted that after the party lost the gubernatorial election in 2023 to Alex Otti of the Labour Party, he, alongside some key members of the PDP, engaged with the new administration.

“I and other committed members of the party, especially in the media, took up the very difficult assignment of engaging the new administration of Dr Alex Otti.

“We mounted a robust defence of our administration and our Principal against the rampaging onslaught of a government that enjoyed massive public support.

“However, to my shock, the reorganisation I looked forward to never happened,” Ememanka said.

He said instead, what they witnessed within the PDP was a mass exodus of key members, leaders and those who benefited from the party since 1999 left for other political parties,

Stating that he cannot play the role of Jesus Christ, who takes away the sins of the whole world, Ememanka said the issues within the PDP affirmed his decision to leave the party.

Appreciating Ikpeazu for his support and opportunities given to him during his tenure as governor, Ememanka said he is, however, yet to decide his next line of action.

“Honestly, I haven’t decided. I am still consulting. It’s a very complex situation and one that I have never been in before. But I have to decide, and quickly too.

“In the recent past, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu has been impressing me with his deft and smooth political moves,” he added.
