Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, is set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Suswam confirmed that he has made up his mind to join the ruling party and that the move is for the interest of the state.
According to him, the decision is aimed at strengthening Benue’s relationship with the Federal Government and positioning the state to benefit from ongoing national programmes.
The two-term governor said he is ready to work closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, SGF George Akume, and Governor Hyacinth Alia.
He believes cooperation, rather than political rivalry, is needed to push development in key areas like security, jobs, and infrastructure.
Suswam noted that his choice is about placing the interest of Benue people above party differences. He said governance should be driven by unity and shared goals, not politics and division.
In a statement released by his Personal Assistant, Emmanuel Hangeior, Suswam emphasised that “the time has come for Benue leaders to close ranks and put the people first.”
Hangeior also stated that “Senator Suswam’s move reflects a new spirit of collaboration one focused on unity, progress, and the prosperity of Benue State.”
Suswam’s defection adds to the growing list of opposition leaders aligning with the ruling party ahead of future elections.
