A former prosecutor of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Wahab Shittu had explained why the Federal Government is yet to extradite former minister Diezani Alison-Madueke.
Shittu while speaking on Channels TV Politics Today said some illegal and extra-legal hurdles have remained a challenge in the planned extradition of the former minister for trial.
According to the former EFCC counsel, there are some legal compliance issues that must be adhered to before extraditing someone who has taken flight from a country.
Shituu said these judicial processes and international administrative protocols must be satisfied by the country.
“These challenges demonstrate the complexity of international justice systems but efforts must continue until justice is served.”
The EFCC had alleged that Alison-Madueke still or over $2.5 billion from public coffers during her time as minister of petroleum resources.
Since her tenure, the former minister has remained in the Uniter Kingdom despite the arrest of some of her associates who were linked to the allegation.
Also, she was arrested by the UK govebrnrnt alongside some of her associates for bribery and money laundering allegations.
A crimes currently being prosecuted by the Southwark Crown Court in the UK.
