Kofo Bucknor-Akerele, a former deputy governor of Lagos State has warned President Bola Tinubu against prioritising the 2027 general election at this time.
Bucknor-Akerele said that Nigeria is facing several challenges that need immediate attention and leaders should currently be committed to delivering good governance to the people and not interested in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Bucknor-Akerele who deputised Tinubu in his first tenure as governor of Lagos State said the re-election bid of the presisent is a misplaced priority.
According to the former Lagos Deputy Governor, it is important for the president to as a matter of urgency, rejig Nigeria’s socio-economic structure.
She advised Tinubu and other leaders in government to focus on getting Nigeria to a working phase before indirectly campaigning for 2027.
“Unfortunately, right now, what I see is that the president is looking for a second term and that seems to be his focus but I think he should try and look at what people like Emeka Anyaoku and so many others of that calibre sat down and they are trying to fashion something that is going to change Nigeria for the future generations.
“I hope that his advisers would be able to tell him that 2027 is not our priority right now; our priority right now is fashioning something that will be able to make Nigeria great again,” Bucknor-Akerele said.
She further called for an improved employment plan for youths across the country.
She warned that the growing number of unemployed youths roaming the streets across the nation is a disaster waiting to happen.
