The presidency has dismissed plans by opposition leaders to form a coalition against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, calling them “frustrated politicians.”
Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy, said the president remains focused on governance and will not be distracted by political alliances driven by self-interest.
It can be recalled that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar announced on Thursday that he and other opposition figures are coming together to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election. He spoke in Abuja at a press conference organized by political stakeholders protesting Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
Among those present at the briefing were former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Imo State governor Emeka Ihedioha, former APC national working committee member Salihu Lukman, and former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal.
Reacting in a statement on Thursday, Onanuga insisted that Tinubu remains committed to national progress, highlighting the administration’s achievements as it nears its midterm mark.
“President Tinubu is focused on governance to build a prosperous country. He is on the way to achieving this. Two months to his midterm, he has many solid achievements to showcase. Intractable problems are being tackled headlong. He cannot be distracted by the so-called coalition of politicians. They are not politicians after the Public Good. It’s all about their self-interest. They are disgruntled. They are a frustrated lot. The leaders are sore losers. The coalition is an amalgam of Tinubu haters. Their agenda is to stop Tinubu,” he wrote on X.
