A Fulani socio-cultural group, the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN), has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to include them in his administration and improve budgetary allocation for livestock production.
In a statement on Tuesday, the group’s national president, Khalil Mohd Bello, said despite their efforts towards the providing nutritional food for the nation, they are mostly neglected in government policies and programmes.
Bello lamented that the government often give attention to elephant projects neglecting livestock development which, according to him, is the bedrock for the provision of nutritional food and additional income in the country.
“The most painful of all is till now, even though both the federal executive and the legislative arms of government agreed on the marginalization of livestock sector as evidently heard from the former Senate President and former Ministers of Agriculture and Rural Development, no concrete stand or measure has been taken to address the anomaly,” Bello said.
He therefore appealed to President Tinubu to end the alleged exclusion of pastoralists in government’s policies and programmes by making adequate budgetary provision in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Directorate of Animal Husbandry Services and Rural Development aimed at developing livestock in Nigeria.
