Gombe PDP chieftain dumps party, announces new move

A top chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jerry Damara has announced his resignation from the party.

Damara, a business mogul and top Tangale-Waje politician announced his resignation from the PDP on Thursday, September 4.

The politician’s decision to leave the party has been perceived as one of the biggest political realignments in Gombe South by his supporters and allies.

In a swift move, the chieftain also presented his new All Progressives Congress membership card to the Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Yahaya.

The managing director of Mesotho Group Limited and the CEO of Kugbo International Market, Damara was led to the governor by a delegation and three former deputy governors four local government chairmen, four members of the Gombe State House of Assembly, and former federal lawmakers among others.

Speaking during the visit, the politician said his decision to join the APC stems from the governor’s development strides and leadership attributes.

“Your Excellency, from today, my loyalty to you and your administration is total. The developmental train you are driving is unstoppable, and I refuse to be left behind.

“Our team has concluded that the APC represents the future of our people, and I am here today with my membership card as a symbol of that renewed commitment,” Damara said.

In his address, the governor described Damara’s defection as a historic one.

Yahaya also stated that Damara’s defection would reshape the strength of the APC in Tangale-Waja, especially with the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
