Gov extends Eid-el-Fitr holiday to Friday

The Sokoto State Government has extended the public holiday for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration to Friday, April 12.

In a statement on Thursday, Abubakar Bawa, the chief press secretary (CPS) to Governor Ahmed Aliyu said Friday has been declared as a work-free day.

Bawa said the extension is to enable civil servants in the state to continue to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with members of their families.

“Governor Ahmed Aliyu wishes the entire people of Sokoto State a hitch-free Sallah celebrations,” the statement reads.

Similarly, Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina has also declared Friday as work free day for the Eid-El-Fitr celebrations.

Radda said his government took the step to enable workers in the state to fully enjoy the celebration with their families.

On April 7, the federal government declared a two-day public holiday – Tuesday and Wednesday – for the Eid festivities.

However, the crescent moon was not sighted on Monday. The Eid-el-Fitr celebration however took place on Wednesday.

On April 9, the federal government then announced an extension of the Eid-el-Fitr public holidays to Thursday.
