Amidst escalating political tensions within Rivers, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has authorized a special Christmas bonus of N100,000.00 for civil servants on the state’s payroll.
On Tuesday, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, issued a statement announcing the initiative.
Commissioner Johnson clarified that Governor Fubara granted immediate approval for the bonus to facilitate a joyful yuletide celebration for the state’s civil servants.
The decision comes during a period of heightened unease within the state stemming from political turmoil.
Recent events have seen attempts by certain former State House of Assembly members loyal to the immediate-past governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.
