Gov Otti explains why he’s governing from his residence

Alex Otti, the governor of Abia state has addressed questions surrounding his inability to renovate the Government House in the state and why he is operating from his private residence.

The governor had come under criticism from members of the opposition over his decision to work from his Isiala Ngwa South residence.

Reacting to the criticism, Otti said the Government House was rendered unfit for habitation by the past administration and would need huge funds to renovate.

He, however, insisted that the renovation of the government House is not a priority for him because he believes Abians elected him to deliver on the dividends of democracy.

He said, for him, the important thing is that he is carrying out his duty as the governor of the state not where he is operating from.

“Abians want to see activities; not where their governor is staying. Where I live is not as important as having roads in Aba and Umuahia and other local government areas in Abia State.

“It is not as important as ensuring that Aba and Umuahia particularly are kept clean on a 24-hour, seven-day basis. It is not as important as ensuring that our people have good hospitals to go to.

“It is not as important as ensuring that our schools are fixed, “ Otti said.
