Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma, on Friday paid a visit to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to deliberate on partnerships aimed at advancing regional development in the South-East.

Uzodinma, who was accompanied by former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim, said the five governors of the zone are exchanging ideas on strategies to improve the welfare and survival of the people of the South-East.

He stressed that meaningful development in the region can only be achieved through unity and a common front among the five South-East governors.

The Imo governor dismissed claims that the visit was politically motivated ahead of the 2027 general elections, explaining that it was a New Year courtesy visit to Governor Otti, whom he commended for his performance in governance.

“We in the South-East are determined to develop the region, and the only way to achieve this is through collaboration,” Uzodinma said.

“As Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, I have a responsibility to reach out, hold discussions, share ideas, and agree on the best ways to help our people survive.

“The five of us have resolved to ensure that the South-East remains an integral part of Nigeria, and that is what we are working towards,” he added.

In his response, Governor Otti thanked Uzodinma for the visit and also dismissed any political undertone, noting that being in different political parties should not be interpreted as being in opposition.
